SNMIC urges employers to consider hiring graduates.

The project, a partnership among the Area Health Education Center of Southern Nevada, SNMIC and the College of Southern Nevada, focuses on areas of the healthcare sector that are underserved including Certified Nursing Assistants, Emergency Medical Technicians, Health Unit Coordinators and Medical Billing/Coding Specialists.

33 students graduated from the program during the fall semester and 96 participants are currently involved at various stages of the program.

Twenty-five percent of the graduates have found employment in their respective fields.

Ninety-eight percent of the students who are in or have gone through the program were unemployed, and the few who had jobs were underemployed or in transitional positions that did not allow them to earn a sustainable living wage.

SNMIC urges our local healthcare facilities to consider hiring these highly trained and qualified individuals.

"A majority of the students enrolled in the program previously worked in some of our hardest hit industries in Las Vegas including real-estate, finance, insurance, gaming, construction management and construction trades and more," said Doug Geinzer, chairman of SNMIC. "It's our mission to provide them with the skills and training they need to transition to the health care industry. In turn, we need our healthcare community to provide jobs to these students upon graduation."
