Sunrise Hospital Opens New Hybrid Operating Room
For Immediate Release:
Sunrise Hospital is proud to announce the completion of its new Hybrid Operating Room (OR) – the first of its kind in Southern Nevada. Heart procedures that used to be performed in two separate rooms (cardiac catheterizations and surgeries) can now be performed in one room through the Hybrid OR, which is designed for certain high-tech heart procedures available now and in the future.

The room, which features new surgical equipment and state-of-the-art imaging, allows appropriate cardiac catheter diagnostic and treatment and cardiovascular surgeries to be performed in the same operating room, which can save vital time.

“We are excited to have Sunrise continue to lead the way in heart care advancements,” said Sylvia Young, CEO of Sunrise Hospital and Sunrise Children’s Hospital. “The new room brings the latest in heart care technology to the Las Vegas community and provides a vital service to our patients.”

This $3.6 million dollar investment will allow procedures on adults and children to be performed in Sunrise’s Hybrid OR, which will have its first procedure later this month. Sunrise Children’s is the only hospital in the state to perform cardiovascular surgeries on children.

One of the features of the Hybrid OR will be the ability to perform procedures which have not been provided in this area until now. For example, until recently the only way to get a new heart valve was to have open heart surgery. Now that has changed, and Sunrise Hospital will offer a new valve replacement procedure to patients. The procedure, known as Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), allows patients to undergo aortic valve replacement through a small incision in the skin. It is a state-of-the-art treatment for aortic valve stenosis. The TAVR procedure may not be used on all patients, but for the appropriate patient it offers a minimally invasive treatment which allows for better outcomes and quicker patient recovery. Sunrise will begin performing the TAVR procedure this spring and it will be performed in the hospital’s new Hybrid OR.

The Hybrid OR is the latest heart care advancement at Sunrise Hospital and Sunrise Children’s Hospital. Last week, the hospital was re-accredited as a Chest Pain Center. Now, we’re expanding our heart care offerings with new advances and facilities.
